2012 Season

Thanks for visiting our blog and welcome.

The new CSA season is upon us.

Some frequently asked questions about the program include:

How do I apply?
You can enroll directly with Catalpa Ridge and pay them accordingly.  Once enrolled, the USH coordinator will reach out to you.

Who will be accepted into the CSA?
Priority will be given to previous USH CSA members, USH members/employees and Kaplan/Learning Center families, and then to the public (there is a wait list maintained by Catalapa Ridge).
Costs are $600/share.

Who is the farmer?
We are going to be working with Catalapa Ridge again this year.

When is sign up?
We are currently accepting applications through the end of May 2012.

Are there any costs to join?
There is a $25 sign up fee, payable upon acceptance into the CSA, which covers costs and supplies. We prefer payment via paypal and will share details once you are enrolled.

Is there a volunteer commitment?
Yes.

There are 3 weekly volunteer times:
  • 10 - 11:30 am
  • 5 - 6:30 pm
  • 6:30 - 8 pm
We will post the volunteer commitment once we have the final number of shares and participants.

Selection for applicants is based in part on availability to volunteer.

Please note that this time is separate from the USH membership volunteer requirements. If you are a USH member and a CSA participant, you will have 2 distinct volunteer responsibilities.

You can elect to opt out of the volunteer requirement for a fee of $300.

When is pickup?
Tuesdays from noon - 7:45 pm.

How long does it run for?
Last year the season ran from June - October. We expect something similar in 2012.

How many shares are available?
Last year we did 40 shares. We will likely do the same for 2012.

Can I split a share with another person?
Sure, but that is your responsibility to manage, and not something USH or Catalpa Ridge will be responsible for facilitating. A single payment is due at the time of enrollment, and each participant in the CSA must volunteer for a a time slot (so, if two people split a share, they each need to volunteer for two separate time slots).
